Shaping the Future of Digital Governance: WSIS+20 in Geneva
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was a key United Nations (UN) platform for global dialogue on digital governance, cooperation, and inclusive knowledge societies. As a champion of digital innovation for social impact, WSA actively participated in the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, contributing to discussions on sustainable digital transformation and the role of technology in achieving the UN's development goals.
Held from July 7–11, 2025, at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, this milestone event was hosted by the ITU and co-organized by UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD, with support from other UN entities committed to implementing the WSIS Action Lines.

This panel discussed the importance of preserving cultural and linguistic diversity—and how ICTs can support this goal. It called for the creation of policies to preserve and promote traditions in digital environments and to support the digitalization of scientific, educational, and cultural heritage. The session highlighted the need to empower indigenous people to create content in their own languages and reflect their cultural values, while also promoting technologies that facilitate this process.
