Tecsify: A WSA Winner Turning Recognition Into Global Opportunities

Can you imagine receiving a WSA Award and turning it into global impact? That’s exactly the story of Tecsify.

When Tecsify was recognized as one of the World Summit Awards Winners in Learning & Education in India, its founder Oscar Morales Cuellar didn’t know that the award stage would become the beginning of a chain of opportunities across the world.

Thanks to WSA’s strategic vision, the award ceremony in Hyderabad included the participation of Omar Castañeda Solares, Ambassador of Guatemala to India. He was invited to receive the award alongside Oscar and Tecsify, symbolically on behalf of the Guatemalan people. What at first seemed like a moment of national pride quickly evolved into a diplomatic bridge.

By meeting Ambassador Castañeda on the WSA stage, Tecsify gained immediate visibility at a governmental and institutional level in both Guatemala and India. This connection not only strengthened Guatemala’s presence in a global innovation arena, but also opened direct conversations with embassies and international stakeholders. For Oscar, it marked the beginning of a new dimension: technology and education projects like Tecsify were no longer seen only as startups, but also as credible partners in diplomacy, cooperation, and development.

On the same stage, Oscar received the award from the ITU Regional Director for Asia. That meeting was another turning point: she guided him toward ITU’s initiatives, and it was through that connection that Oscar learned about the Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme (GCYLP) — one of ITU’s most selective fellowships, with more than 18,000 applicants worldwide, 6,000 finalists, and only 31 selected. Encouraged by what he had lived through at WSA, Oscar applied — and was chosen as a Global Fellow.

This fellowship not only recognized his leadership, but also paved the way for a landmark agreement: with the support of ITU and Huawei, Tecsify signed a commitment to advance artificial intelligence for development in Latin America.

This agreement gives Tecsify institutional backing from one of the world’s leading multilateral organizations and one of the largest technology companies, reinforcing the credibility of its mission. With this support, Tecsify is now positioned to design and expand AI-driven solutions that can bring education, opportunities, and digital inclusion to thousands of people across the region.

For Latin America, it represents a breakthrough: a Guatemalan-born project, empowered by WSA, now stands as a reference point in a global effort to harness frontier technologies for social good. What began as a recognition moment on stage in India has grown into a supported initiative with the potential to transform entire communities.

Oscar Morales Cuellar appeared on the cover of the very first edition of Forbes 30 Under 30 Latin America. But the real milestone was not the magazine itself — it was what his presence there represented.

For the first time, a Guatemalan social entrepreneur leading a project born in Central America was featured as one of the faces of a new generation of leaders shaping the region. It was a moment that challenged the narrative: innovation and global impact are not exclusive to large economies or privileged backgrounds. They can also come from places like Guatemala, driven by young leaders who combine technology with social purpose.

Oscar’s presence on that cover symbolized more than recognition — it signaled a shift. It showed that projects like Tecsify, created to empower vulnerable communities, belong at the center of the conversation about the future of Latin America.

Back home, Guatemala also celebrated his impact. Oscar was named “Guatemalteco del Año” (Guatemalan of the Year) a national distinction that has historically honored the country’s most influential leaders in culture, science, and public life.

For Oscar, this was not just a personal achievement, but a collective one. It represented how technology and social innovation can become drivers of dignity and opportunity in Guatemala — and how a project born in local communities can rise to be celebrated as a source of national pride.

This recognition confirmed that Tecsify is not only shaping conversations on global stages, but also resonating deeply within its own country. It bridged the local and the global: proof that when innovation is rooted in purpose, it can inspire both international institutions and everyday citizens.

Oscar Morales Cuellar CEO de Tecsify en WSA
“More than the awards, what I treasure most is the purpose that WSA helped amplify in me. It’s thanks to WSA that I connected with inspiring people I admire — and that I understood the power of building bridges,” Oscar reflects.

From Hyderabad to Geneva, from Guatemala to the world, Tecsify’s journey shows what the WSA stands for: turning recognition into real opportunities, creating global bridges, and inspiring innovators to maximize their impact. What began as a single award has now become a story of global relevance — proving that talent can emerge anywhere, and that with the right platform, it can change the world.
