WSA Where Are They Now? – Planting Knowledge Through ALFI

Overview and Impact

ALFI is a digital financial education initiative focused on making practical financial knowledge accessible to communities across Latin America. Its core mission is to help people move from intuitive decision-making to informed financial planning.

In many parts of the region, financial education is not part of formal schooling. As a result, individuals and small producers often manage budgets, investments, and production costs without the necessary tools. ALFI addresses this gap by offering accessible, easy-to-use learning solutions that focus on real-life applications rather than theory.

The impact of this approach can be seen at the community level. Farmers who participated in ALFI training programs now organize production more efficiently, calculate expenses in advance, and plan future investments. This has also contributed to stronger participation of women in economic decision-making.

A key factor in ALFI’s growth has been the use of digital platforms, making financial concepts more interactive and accessible. Today, ALFI has over 500,000 active users and has reached more than two million people.

WSA Recognition, Lessons, and Future Outlook

Recognition by the World Summit Awards in 2023 marked an important milestone. It increased the project’s visibility and connected it to a global network of innovators using technology to address social challenges. Being part of this community enabled knowledge exchange, new collaborations, and strengthened ALFI’s credibility with institutional partners.

One of the key lessons from ALFI’s development is that technology alone does not create impact. Solutions must be designed around real user needs, with a focus on simplicity, usability, and relevance in everyday life. Adapting these tools to different social and economic contexts remains essential.

Like many social innovation projects in Latin America, ALFI faces challenges such as limited access to long-term funding and ongoing digital gaps. Despite this, the project continues to grow.

Looking ahead, ALFI aims to further expand access to financial education through digital innovation, while maintaining a strong focus on practical impact. Its goal remains to empower individuals and communities to make informed financial decisions and build more sustainable futures.
