Muriel Alarcón is a Chilean journalist based in Santiago, Chile, where she works as a freelance reporter. Additionally, she is a Professor at the Journalism School of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Alarcón is a regular contributor to El Mercurio and La Segunda, two prominent newspapers in Chile.
Alarcón holds a Master of Arts degree in science, health, and environment journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She was a Global Migration Project Fellow in 2020 and a Joan Konner Program in the Journalism of Ideas Fellow in 2022 at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2023, she was honored as a Climate Science Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow. During this fellowship, she was part of the Pulitzer Center delegation at COP28 in Dubai. Her work has been featured in international media outlets including The New York Times, Gatopardo magazine, Grist, Wired, and El País.
