Abena AI is Africa’s first hands-free offline voice assistant, made by Africans for Africa, to solve African problems. Although English is the official language in Ghana, most people are more comfortable speaking their own national languages or Pidgin English, which is a mixture of languages. In particular, for the aged, rural women, and many people who may not have gone to school or dropped out, their lack of ability to speak English or read in any language seriously hampers their use of smartphones. Abena AI solves this problem by speaking in national languages, notably Twi, which is a lingua franca, and even in Pidgin English. It allows people to use voice to check basics such as how much phone credit they have, send mobile money, check the weather, and see what news is trending. It is an amazing app with respect to digital inclusion, as it helps people overcome the barriers of language and literacy.
