UTP Strengthens International Alliances with Visit from World Summit Awards Founder
On July 30, 2026, the Technological University of Panama (UTP) hosted Dr. Peter A. Bruck, founder and president of the World Summit Awards (WSA) — an international organization recognizing digital solutions with social impact. The visit follows the announcement that WSA's Secretariat will establish its headquarters in Panama, positioning the country as a regional hub for digital transformation and innovation.
The meeting was chaired by Eng. Julio Quiel, Acting Rector (representing Dr. Ángela Laguna), with participation from Dr. Arletty Pinel (president of Genos), faculty from the School of Computer Systems Engineering, and staff from the Knowledge Management and Transfer Directorate (DGTC) and the International Relations Directorate (DRI).
Quiel called the visit an opportunity to strengthen ties between academia, innovation, and international cooperation, and reaffirmed UTP's commitment to training professionals who can generate innovative solutions — noting that collaboration with global organizations should boost applied research, knowledge transfer, and tech-based entrepreneurship in Panama and the region.
The DGTC will lead future cooperation efforts with WSA: identifying innovative projects with international potential, supporting tech entrepreneurship, and creating open innovation spaces linking academia, business, government, and society.
