How to network

In the startup world, there’s a lot of pressure to appear confident and successful — but real progress often starts by asking for help.

1. Stop Performing, Start Connecting

Founders shared that growth doesn’t come from pitching perfection, but from reaching out for honest support. Whether it’s feedback on your product, advice on hiring, or connections in a new market, asking can open doors you didn’t know existed.
🔗 People love to help — but they can’t if they don’t know what you need.

2. Be Clear and Specific

Generic asks (“Can you help?”) often get vague replies. Founders found more success by being:

  • Specific: “I’m looking for a mentor with B2B experience in health tech.”
  • Clear: “Could you introduce me to someone working at X organization?”
  • Humble but confident: “Here’s where we’re stuck — any advice would mean a lot.
  • 🎯 Clarity builds trust. The more focused your ask, the easier it is for others to support you.

3. It’s Not Just About Funding

Support goes far beyond money. Mentorship, peer learning, feedback, or even just being heard can be game-changing. Founders emphasized building a support system early, especially with fellow entrepreneurs who understand the emotional rollercoaster of building something from scratch.
