Dr Katja Mayer is a sociologist at the Department of Science and Technology Studies at the University of Vienna and senior scientist at the Center for Social Innovation ZSI. Her work examines the politics of digital infrastructures, data practices, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on public interest, collective control, and accountable governance. She approaches digital commons as a crucial dimension of digital sovereignty, and hence democracy. She leads international research projects and is currently co-editing the forthcoming volume The Politics of Open Infrastructures with Open Book Publishers.
