Mariam Torosyan is a women’s rights advocate and social entrepreneur on a mission to address violence against women through innovation and technology. She is the Founder & CEO of Safe YOU, a mobile app and AI-powered platform that operates at both the individual and systemic levels, serving as a lifeline for women in danger, while also equipping institutions, governments, and NGOs to strengthen the prevention of and response to gender-based violence. To date, Safe YOU has reached over 1 million women, directly impacted 65,000, and saved more than 300 lives. The platform has been recognized by the UN Secretary-General as a Digital Public Good, a distinction that underscores its contribution to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, primarily SDG 5: Gender Equality.

Mariam has been awarded as the 2023 Cartier Women’s Initiative Fellow for Europe, named a 2025 Cartier Impact Awardee, and recognized as a Young Transatlantic Innovation Leader by the U.S. Department of State in 2023. She was featured as one of 15 changemakers in the Women’s Pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka 2025, Japan. Her leadership has further been recognized through global awards including the UNFPA Innovation Challenge, World Summit Award, European Young Innovators program, UNDP Boost program, and UNWTO Awake Challenge.

With a background in Human Rights Law, Public Health, and Anthropology, Mariam has conducted research and lectured internationally on human rights, public health and AI. A frequent public speaker, Mariam has addressed issues of violence against women at high-level UN events in New York and Geneva, as well as at the European Parliament in Brussels. She also represented women’s issues during the Francophonie Summit in 2024, advocating for gender equality before 88 heads of state and government. Today, she leads projects across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, scaling Safe YOU’s mission worldwide.
