Matthias Landgraf is the CEO and founder of evias and a private lecturer at Graz University of Technology as well as the University of Applied Sciences in St. Pölten. He is also a member of EU-Rail's Scientific Steering Group.

From 2011 to 2023, he was responsible for project leadership, research, and teaching at Graz University of Technology, Institute of Railway Engineering and Transport Economics.

In 2016, he earned his doctorate in condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, asset management, and life cycle costing of railway infrastructure. Since then, the methods he developed have been implemented by various European railway infrastructure managers, including ÖBB (Austria), SBB (Switzerland), ProRail (Netherlands), and BaneNor (Norway). He established the research group "Environmental Aspects of the Railway System" at Graz University of Technology, focusing on energy efficiency, life cycle assessment, and alternative propulsion technologies in railways. After research stays at UC Berkeley (California, US) and ETH Zurich (Switzerland), he completed his habilitation (venia docendi) at Graz University of Technology in 2022.

He has gained extensive experience as a speaker, delivering over 100 international lectures and moderations. Additionally, he has authored more than 60 publications, including peer-reviewed scientific papers, conference papers, book chapters, and books. Due to his expertise in mobility, rail transport, and sustainability, he is one of the lead authors of the second Austrian assessment report on climate change. He has received several awards, including the FSV Research Award in 2017, the VCÖ Mobility Award (Consortium Hytrail) in 2019, and best paper awards at WCRR 2019 in Tokyo and the IHHA conference in 2017 in Cape Town.
