Ecosia is a search engine that uses its profits from advertising to plant trees in areas affected by deforestation and desertification. The start-up has planted more than 69 million trees across 22 reforestation sites worldwide.  On average, Ecosia’s efforts result in 500,000 trees being planted each week. In 2018 Ecosia gave away its shares to the Purpose Foundation, to assure that its founders can never take profits out of the company or receive dividends. They are B-Corporation, since 2017, with their own solar plant to ensure it was 100% renewable.
