Karya is a digital solution aimed at addressing poverty and creating dignified work for low-income and underserved communities in India. With 230 million people living in poverty, especially in rural areas, Karya leverages the widespread access to smartphones to offer AI-driven digital work opportunities directly to individuals, bypassing the need for constant internet access or expensive equipment. The platform allows workers, primarily women from marginalized communities, to complete micro-tasks related to complex AI data projects for major clients like Google and Microsoft. Karya ensures fair compensation, paying at least 20 times the Indian minimum wage, and empowers its workers by offering royalties from dataset resales and access to AI skills development programs. By addressing the accessibility and ethical challenges of the AI market, Karya creates sustainable pathways out of poverty, while promoting gender equality and social change.
