India’s ambitious agenda for industrial growth requires large swathes of land, often forcefully or fraudulently grabbed with loss of life. Land Conflict Watch is a network of researchers that digitally map data on land conflicts in India. Big data is regularly analysed for emerging trends nationally and regionally, and for policy gaps at the intersection of land conflicts, land rights, governance, economy, class and gender. The network works with journalists to report big picture stories on conflicts and policy gaps so as to spark public debate.
