The Natural History Museum, in London, has embarked on an epic journey to digitize 80 million specimens from one of the world’s most important natural history collections, giving the global community access to unrivaled historical, geographic and taxonomic specimen data gathered over the last 250 years. Since Feb 2015 their Data was released freely and openly. Since then over 17 billion records have been downloaded, and over 330 scientific papers have used these data to research and address key societal challenges, from climate and human health to invasive species and agriculture.
