StartSomeGood is a platform which empowers all changemakers globally to raise the funds and grow the community of supporters they need to transform ideas for good into action and impact. Social innovators come to our site with an idea for how they want to improve the world and detail the issue they seek to address and their plan for doing so.
Once approved by the StartSomeGood team, we work with the social entrepreneurs to help them craft a campaign to raise funds, through a high-touch approach with feedback and guidance sharing what we’ve learned in helping 70 social entrepreneurs raise the funds they need to successfully launch. They’ll come up with a “tipping point” goal, which is defined as the amount of funds they need to start doing good in the world. All campaigns have a tangible outcome, be it launching a new venture, entering a new market, serving a new population or creating some other new form of social good.
This specificity is crucial. There are lots of people in the world that want to support social innovators making a difference, but they want to be sure that the funds that they donate truly have an impact. Donations to huge non-profits are great, but people often feel a lack of connection between their support and on-the-ground impact. Because campaigns on StartSomeGood are centered around individual and identifiable social entrepreneurs with a meaningful and tangible goal, and must reach a “tipping point” before any funds change hands, when someone supports a project they know that there is a critical mass of support behind the idea and exactly how their funds are being used to create change. Though people will pledge their support towards the campaign, crucially funds only change hands if a campaign reaches its tipping point goal by its campaign deadline. This provides a security of outcome for both supporters as well as entrepreneurs, ensuring that if money does change hands that new tangible social good will come as a result, and that the entrepreneur will truly have the resources necessary to take action right away.
We make the fundraising campaign process as smooth as possible for social entrepreneurs using our site. From processing payments via PayPal, to advising ventures on best practices and providing a seamless platform for running a campaign, we provide a fundraising home on the internet for social ventures so that they can focus on what they do best: making a difference in the world.
