The Josef Umdasch Research Prize

Since 1990, the Umdasch Group has been supporting outstanding achievements in research and development through the Josef Umdasch Research Prize. The company’s present owners Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch, who named the prize after their father, Josef Umdasch, originally initiated the award.

Initially dedicated as an award for students and their theses, the prize has now grown into an international ideas competition that offers outstanding personalities a stage to present their innovative technologies and sustainable visions.

As a result of the cooperation with the World Summit Awards (WSA), which has been in existence since 2018, the Josef Umdasch Research Prize is increasingly aimed at start-ups, entrepreneurs and future-oriented thinkers around the globe who can inspire enthusiasm with an innovative project idea.

About Umdasch Group Ventures

We are the future & innovation hub of the multi-national Umdasch Group. We focus on pathbreaking technologies and business models in construction and retail. We strategically invest in young technology companies but also develop new, potentially disruptive business models ourselves, in co-creation with international partners.

We are open-minded, pick-up very visionary ideas and have a strong ambition and power to create something big!

The nominees of 2020 pitched their detailed ideas on stage at the WSA Global Congress in Vienna, Austria on March 11th.

The start-up Evocco convinced the jury most impressively. Evocco has developed an app that calculates the ecological footprint of food purchases.

“With Evocco we are bringing on board a young Irish company which comes from a very lively start-up scene. We want to profit from this spirit. I see great potential in their app solution. A multi-disciplinary team of Umdasch experts will support the founder, Ahmad Mu´azzam, in the realisation of his ambitious vision,” commented Silvio Kirchmair, CEO of umdasch The Store Makers.
