THIS WAS THE JOSEF UMDASCH RESEARCH PRIZE 2020
Since 2017, WSA and Umdasch Group have joined together to find the most innovative solutions for their global companies. The winners of 2018 and 2019 are currently working with the companies on the realisation of their prize-winning ideas.
WSA and Umdasch Group have continued the successful collaboration in 2020. The Umdasch Group subsidiary umdasch The Store Makers – one of the leading shopfitting companies in Europe – was looking for innovative solutions and smart ideas on Responsible Consumption through Digitalisation.
The Josef Umdasch Research Prize 2020 received 170 registrations from 53 countries.
After evaluation by the jury the following ideas were nominated:
- Chekkit App (Nigeria) - Tracking of products with QR codes, RFID and blockchain to avoid counterfeiting and to support customer experience and real-time tracking.
- Evocco (Ireland) - Climate Impact Tracker App to calculate the personal CO2 Footprint based on consumer purchases.
- Fixture Farmer (Germany) - 3D printing of (temporary) furniture with plastic waste.
- Novalia (Austria) - Concept of an experience gastronomy with insects in combination with regional food.
- Ordito (Austria) - AI prediction tool to avoid food waste in catering, bakeries and retail.
The nominees pitched their detailed ideas on stage at the WSA Global Congress in Vienna, Austria on March 11th.
The start-up Evocco convinced the jury most impressively. Evocco has developed an app that calculates the ecological footprint of food purchases.
“With Evocco we are bringing on board a young Irish company which comes from a very lively start-up scene. We want to profit from this spirit. I see great potential in their app solution. A multi-disciplinary team of Umdasch experts will support the founder, Ahmad Mu´azzam, in the realisation of his ambitious vision,” commented Silvio Kirchmair, CEO of umdasch The Store Makers.
The Josef Umdasch Research Prize
Since 1990 the Umdasch Group has been supporting outstanding achievements in research and development through the Josef Umdasch Research Prize.
